When someone searches for “plumber near me” or “accountant in Leeds”, Google shows a map with three local businesses before any normal results. Getting into that map pack can transform how many enquiries you receive. Here’s our checklist.
1. Claim and complete your Google Business Profile
Your Google Business Profile is the single most important local SEO asset.
- Choose the most accurate primary category.
- Add your opening hours, services, service areas and a detailed description.
- Upload genuine photos of your team, premises and work.
- Post updates and offers regularly.
2. Keep your NAP consistent
NAP means Name, Address and Phone number. Make sure these are identical on your website, your Google profile, social media and directories such as Yell, Bing Places and Apple Business Connect.
3. Build pages for the places you serve
If you serve several towns, create a useful page for each, with genuinely local content, not copies with the town name swapped. Mention nearby areas, local projects and directions.
4. Earn and respond to reviews
Reviews influence both rankings and buying decisions. Ask happy customers for a review, make it easy with a direct link, and reply to every review, positive or negative.
5. Add local structured data
LocalBusiness schema tells search engines exactly who you are, where you are and when you’re open. It’s invisible to visitors but valuable to Google.
6. Make your website fast and mobile-friendly
Most local searches happen on phones. A fast, mobile-first website with a tap-to-call button turns local searchers into customers.
